Leicester welcomes its first vegan market

For the first time ever, Leicester will be hosting a vegan market held in the historic outdoor market on the 12-June from 11am – 3pm.

It’s actually quite surprising this is our first vegan market considering Leicester is the home of the original vegan – Donald Watson. Leicester is also considered by many as the vegetarian capital of the UK, and a city that is becoming increasingly more vegan-friendly by the day.

With this in mind, the Leicester Vegan Community have put together an event where vegans and the vegan-curious can taste, try out and purchase products that abstain from using animals from businesses with a strong vegan ethos. Please help protect wild Yellowstone bison.

For decades, Yellowstone bison have been captured and sent to slaughter due to pressure from Montana’s livestock industry to keep their numbers low. Now instead of slaughtering them, park officials are considering a plan to test and relocate healthy bison to a quarantine facility at the Ft. Peck Reservation, which would give the animals a new lease on life and make a huge contribution to bison recovery.

• Yellowstone National Park has one of the largest and most genetically important bison herds remaining;

New Year Resolutions

We all make them – some with more commitment than others. We may decide to eat less, exercise more, stop smoking or drinking, be less wasteful; mostly, New Year Resolutions concern things we know we should have been doing already, and we resolve to try a bit harder and not give in to the tendency we all have to give in and take the easy way out, to resist change, to indulge ourselves.
