Something was taken from you, me, and all humanity last week. Africa’s largest known elephant was shot in Zimbabwe by a trophy hunter, allegedly a German national. He proudly posed with his kill, but hunting organizers have refused to identify him. I encourage him to come forward so the civilized world may give him the recognition he so richly deserves.
He reportedly paid £39,000 ($64,000 U.S.) for a permit for the pleasure he derived from killing this magnificent animal. The elephant was estimated to be 40 to 60 years old.
The hunt was deemed to be “legal.” That is an interesting description, and irrelevant to the slaughtered elephant. Legal or illegal, he’s the dead victim either way. There are many unthinkable things that are “legal” in certain parts of the world, including child labor/abuse, beheadings, and eating dogs– none of which are moral or ethical.
