Traditionally, October 4th is World Animal Day. For over 80 years, this day has been marked as the day to spread the word on animal awareness. There will be many events, here is one spread out over all continents:

In Defense of Animals is organizing a March for Elephants and Rhinos:

“In Africa, four elephants are illegally killed for their ivory every hour with only 300,000 to 500,000 alive today. Every nine hours a rhino is killed for his/her horn and it’s estimated that fewer than 22,000 African rhino now remain.
